Compared to some of the other X-com games and spin off''s: UFO:AI has relatively few weapon families and i was surprised that there were no Electronically Fired Stacked Projectile Weapons, better known as Metal Storm Style weapons in the game (which in my opinion would likely exist in large numbers by 2084). Of course the potential weapons i am about to describe do not exist and are not made by the Metal Storm company and should be mid-tier weapons that require alien alloys to be researched. EFSPW's would make use of large caliber (as in .50 cal for pistol .75cal for rifle and 25mm for auto cannon) high velocity ceramic slugs (using super HV gunpowder) designed to be able to penetrate armor at a distance then unfurl within the target ripping basket ball sized holes in flesh (although the thicker the armor and the farther away the target; the less internal damage inflicted) and possibly use Depleted Uranium slugs as an alternate heavy anti-armor round. Because of their nature of being electronically fired weapons they are capable of incredibly high rates of fire (can fire a 3 round burst before the user even feels the recoil) and unlike plasma and laser weapons they would have full auto capabilities just in case they were needed. They would come in a pistol, assault rifle, auto cannon and possibly a shotgun variant. However the weapons would have significant drawbacks; they would be relatively expensive and time consuming weapons to produce compared to plasma and laser weapons (and would not have the absolute precision of laser weapons or the brute power of the later particle beam weapons or the coilgun), the nature of their stacked ammunition would take up twice the space of more traditional magazine fed weapons (and hold relatively small number of rounds; only 18 for the AR variant), their rate of fire can chew through their limited ammo supply very quickly and (due to the nature of super HV gunpowder) to keep the weapons from either have a ridiculously short barrel life or outright exploding would require the use of the super strong alien alloys to make them functional weapons (although not very much would be required).
