Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/feature-requests/483 Item 483] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 20:20:07

During my normalmapping experiments I found out that models (@ least on the battlescape) do not get their normalmaps applied, although some of them already got normalmaps (Raptor dropship for example)...
IMO we could enhance graphical quality big time, if we would enable normalmap support for all of the models also, so we could enhance them not only with glowmaps, but with normalmaps also...
I would volunteer in making highly detailed normalmaps for our models if this feature gets enabled...
I imagine gaining lots of detail, which especially all the aircraft, but also the alien models for example could use well...

maybe arisian can tell more here...

I believe that most of the more advanced rendering (eg. normalmapping, etc.) doesn't get used in mesh_fs.glsl, which is what gets used for rendering models. world_fs.glsl does much more advanced rendering, but it only gets applied to materials (and then only when they have lighting enabled). I'll take a look and see how hard it would be to integrate support for normalmaps into the mesh shaders.

Great to read that, I have already some top ones prepared if that helps to motivate somehow ;)
