Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/feature-requests/154 Item 154] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 20:14:20

In the old XCom games, there was a squad leader rank,
but there were not squads. I always wondered why. The
ability to move your team as a group would be a great
addition.

A couple questions:
- how will selecting multiple people be adapted to the current hud layout?
- can the current engine comfortably handle several entities moving simultaneously?

A few thoughts:
- click and drag needs to be implemeted for this during tactical combat
- it would be nice if one could set formations (ala Ancient Art of War) e.g. wedge, serpetine and have the teams automatically organize and move in those formations
- this paves the way for scripted room clearing and road traversing, a nice feature the no one else has and one that would really speed up the slow gameplay

Those are some great ideas. I don't know if the engine would handle simultaneous character movement, but it doesn't really have to. The game is turn based, so as long as each character is in its final position, then the order in which they move is not an issue; however, when moving in formations / as a group, the member with the lowest time units available has to set the "pace", since you would not want to break up the squadron. This could be accomplished by simply using the time units for the lowest available squad member as the group's whole squad. Maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but this seems like a viable solution to me.

Has anyone looked at this at all? I think it's a really exciting addition that would add a new innovative level of gameplay to UFO:AI

Hey two years later and no updates... Just wondering if this is being considered at all?
