Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/feature-requests/94 Item 94] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 20:12:11

For planning the movement during a mission,
it would be very useful to be able to reserve TU
for shooting and kneeling.

E.g. use right-click on the buttons for primary /
secondary shots, and the crouch/standup-button
to reserve/unreserve that many TU.

Great idea, and less disappointment in playing when you are 1 TU short to take a shot.

I recall in XCOM 2 Terror from the deep, it was possible to reserve TUs for different shots and kneeling (depending on the weapon, the amount of TUs being reserved could be on the button.

Snapshot (12TU) Aimedshot (22TU) Full Auto (8TU) Kneel(1TU) etc..

This way you can set up a soldier to crouch after every move, and to reserve time to take a "snapshot" in reaction. I'm a bit confused by the way reaction fire happens, because it seems in the game like the reaction fire "cost" is taken out of the "next" turn rather than the current turn. i.e. I should run my TU down to nothing, because the reaction will consume TU from the next turn. (this needs to be better documented for the end user I think).

I believe reserving time units was a feature in all of the XCOM games. I've only played 1 and 3... never 2, so I dunno.

There already are some improvements along this line in the development version (2.3.x)
Not planned to be included in any future 2.2.x releases though - this is pretty much incompatible with the 2.2 code.
It _will_ be in the first 2.3 release of course :D If you feel like testing these features you can also try to play the development builds (mattn.ninex.info) - you can ask me (or comment here) if you have problems.

1) Kneeling:
Right now there is a checkbock next to the crouch-button which does reserve TUs for that.
This setting is also remembered throughout and between missions.

2) Shooting:
There is also a new function that pops up a small window where you can select one of the firemodes of your 2 weapons to be reserved.

The reserved value is also remembered....
Only problem/bug right now: It is not possible to change weapons and except the value is the correct one yet (code wise there is no info stored what weapon it was and what hand it's in, so checking that is not yet possible).

3) Reaction Fire (RF):
All this is possible _additional_ to reservations for Reaction Fire. Which was changed as well to take remaining TUs instead of taking them from the next round.

You can easily combine crouch-, shot- and RF-reservations.

So long,
Werner

PS: I loved Terror from the deep; the whole Lovecraft influences and the music really added to the frightening atmosphere :D It's really worth a try, runs perfectly in dosbox btw.
