Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/bugs/216 Item 216] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 18:15:21

If the target is at a lower height than the soldier
throwing it, no trajectory for the grenade is plotted.

If it is thrown anyway, there is a 'funny' animation,
but nothing happens (i.e. no explosion), but the
grenade disappears.

Examples:
Soldier on stairs, at window on first floor,
mine-mission, etc.

In SVN 3303,bunker01d,grenade falls down and explodes, but
trajectory isn'T updated properly.

I pushed through a fix for this in trunk SVN rev 3635. I
didn't spend a great deal of time on it though hence I can't
vouch for the physics used in the calculations (either prior
to or after my patch). However it seems to be reasonable in
testing, so I'm closing this bug.

Ideally if a soldier is throwing nearly vertically downward
(as might be the case in the "mine" mission) an animation of
the soldier leaning over, chucking it down then taking cover
would be really nice. This fix doesn't accomplish that but
throwing nearly vertically downwards does work even if it
look a tad unrealistic.

Well it looks like my simple fix wasn't good enough.
tomshackell (archmoo) was clever enough to work through the
maths and physics correctly. His very thorough fix was
applied to SVN trunk in revision 3846 (unfortunately too
late for RC5, so some issues could still remain with grenade
throwing downward in RC5).
