Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/bugs/1929 Item 1929] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 19:14:56

vista 64
intel core duo 2 e8200 + geforce 8800 gts 512mb (180.48 drivers)

trunks version 20756

It kicks me back to main menu when I attempt to connect to a server in multiplayer. I'm able to click join and see the people connected to the server, but clicking connect boots me to main menu. I get the following in my ufoconsole.log:

Connecting to 87.112.0.160 27910 27910...
Failed to resolve host 87.112.0.160 27910:27910: WSAHOST_NOT_FOUND
Could not connect to 87.112.0.160 27910 27910

seems to be a cross-platform bug (me on linux, voodoospork on win). we got the same error both ways round. i was using the non-ded server).

This still happens in current trunk (r25015). For a two player session it is like this:

1. connect to game
2. clicking "ready" -> back to main menu
3. game on server starts
4. connect again and it works.

the error is that the port number is used twice - and once it is included in the ip name (which is then taken as a hostname) => the game tries to resolv the hostname "87.112.0.160 27910" and connect to port 27910 - this can't work of course. But is this still the case for you in current trunk? I've tested a lot of multiplayer in the last days, and haven't seen this. If this is still true for you in current trunk (r27301), please let me know what you exactly did - where you connect from which button you clicked and so on.

as this is not reproducible for me in current trunk, i've set it to pending, awaiting your feedback. if that small nasty critter is still alive, please reopen the ticket.
