Standard installation directory on windows 7 "C:\Users\Public\UFOAI-2.3-dev"??
"Public" is not my username. Is that intentional?

Yes it is intentional thats the way the game works just go with it

From what i could gather around the forum, it seems all the actual content for the stable release is there already. All that was missing were some articles and bug hunting. I'm hopeful that i will get to play a release within the next few weeks at most  :D I really can't get myself involved with the constant dev builds until i know what the game is like as a stable version. I want the best first impression possible.

I won't risk a bad impresion through a dev build, i love X-COM too much. I'm sure i'm not the only "lurker" who feels the same way.

I dont know if you like this, but: when the final release of version 2.3 is out, maybe the game - in his single player version - isnt 100% done. means, you maybe cant finish the game like it was intendet. At least thats what i heard. The final release may be within reach, but the game isnt finished. BUT the game is really great! I cant wait to finaly play the singleplayer mode again :D

Put simply, Windows Vista/7's improved security model make this a necessity if you want any other users to play the game...  Of course, if your system is single user, well, it really shouldn't matter anyway.  But you can install it in whatever directory you have sufficient access rights to.  Particularly if you want to prevent other users from playing the game (for whatever reason).

OK, it's finally here!

This is an installer in RELEASE compilation mode:
http://www.destructavator.com/92dl/ufoai/ufoai_2_3_dev_win32_r29905.exe

If you want the DEBUG version, I have the executable EXE files and Game.DLL files in a separate, small package here, just replace the files from the main installer:
http://www.destructavator.com/92dl/ufoai/binaries_r29905.zip

This should allow anyone to run both release and debug versions of the game.

Please note that if you intend to report bugs, it is recommended that you use the DEBUG files, thank you.

http://www.destructavator.com/92dl/ufoai/ufoai_2_3_dev_win32_r29944.exe

Another in RELEASE mode, from the newly created 2.3 branch.

I don't have separate binaries for DEBUG available at the moment, but when I can get to it I'll build and upload those as well.

Please Note:  This revision is past a savegame break, you will need to start over in a new game with this installer.

Having a few problems with this 2.3 build on windows 7 (although have also tried on an xp machine and is also same) have tried compiling it myself to no avail, basically what is happening is  loads the game and installs fine, but when loading first mission map it just freezes and locks up game then doesnt respond have tried leaving it for over an hour and still the same

tried xp sp 3 mode run as admin
my instalation drive has my user account as owner and security permissions to allow full control for my user

am running
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
AMD Black Edition 3.2ghx Dual Core
4GB GeIL
2x ATI 2600 HD XT
2.2 worked fine on this machine under Vista x64 Home Premium

also same on

Acer 6920 Laptop
Windows 7x64 Ultimate
2.0ghz T5200 Dual Core
2gb Ram
ATI 3650 MXM
2.2 worked fine on this machine under Vista x32 Home Basic

HP nx6125
Windows XP sp3
1.8 Sempron Single Core
1.5Gb Ram
X1300 Integrated G/Card 128
2.2 worked fine on this machine

any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, I seem to remember a semi fix to a vista problem by changing the sound settings (was that for this?)

Yes, that's a nasty bug, which we should repair before v2.3 final gets released. I will add this important info to the graphic options tooltips !
