Description
On Arch Linux lua 5.3 headers are placed in /usr/include instead of /usr/include/lua5.3 as happens in Debian.
This makes the lua5.1 presence check in configure script to return a false positive in case lua5.3 is installed even if lua5.1 is not.
This results in a failure during make.

A bug report on lua package in Arch was (roughly) closed: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/52040
I tested the patch on Debian and on Arch.
