Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/bugs/484 Item 484] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 18:21:29

As it is in the summary...
Running on Ubuntu Edgy (amd64)
Nvidia 6600 GT (driver v1.08776)
1 GB ram
svn revision 5974

When it crashes the terminal shows something like this (using gdb):

[Thread 1082141008 (zombie) exited]
SDL audio device shut down.
Shader shutdown
Error: CL_UpdateHireVar: SoldiersInBase: 1, teamNum[0]: 8, p: 1

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 47010584761552 (LWP 1458)]
0x00002ac17ef6186d in getenv () from /lib/libc.so.6

There were more things but I don't know if they are linked with the crash. Things like this:
CL_AircraftGetFromIdx: aircraft idx: 0 - base idx: 0 (PHALANX HQ)
CL_IsInAircraftTeam:not found idx '17'

It always happens (1st mission), so I don't have a way to return to base.
I am attaching the gdb backtrace, hope it helps.

From what I've seen (reported the bug previously) it only happens if you lose soldiers in a mission

nope, it doesn't, when you abort the mission or you just return, you get the same problem, so it is not just when you lose soldiers.

I checked with the newest release and I get the same problem.

Can you, please, try the revision 6040? I do not have this problem with r6040, however in the later commits this problem can appear again but that will be related to completely other part of code, so it would be great if you could confirm that 6040 is ok (to not mixup different bugs with the same effect).

I tried the rev 6040, and it seems that the problem is fixed, however I noticed that now I cannot hire any more soldiers or scientists, is this supposed to be ok?

I tried with the rev 6057 and it seems to be ok too.

I believe that in (at least in r6040) hiring additional personel will be possible if you build second living quarters in your base. That's because of freshly introduced code to handle quarters limits. :-)

Thanks for confirming that original bug does not appear anymore, I mark this bug as pending since I believe it is fixed. Please let me know if you know otherwise.
