I realised that there are only 2 built-in environment-maps (0, 1) & 3 flares (0, 1, 2) for easy-use with the material-system available.
I know that it is possible to integrate additional own envmaps & flares.
But maybe we should think about integrating more of them for easy-use for the mappers into the source-code.
In r_image.h @ the end of the file are the definitions for the number of built-in flares & envmaps.
I would be willing to create some good-looking new flares & envmaps & would test them in-game & submit a patch, if that is wanted by the developers.
BTW: envmap 0 & envmap 1 are the same, just one is brighter than the other, but this has no influence whatsoever on the looks when used in-game, so there is not much variety possible with effectively just 1 envmap ;)

Tested different flares - Working perfectly !
Tested different envmaps - Always same effect in-game (envmap 0 = envmap 1 = ... = envmap x) :(
Will submit a patch for the flares soon, adding envmaps is not a good idea @ the moment before the code is repaired...
