The ai that arms soldiers at the beginning of a campaign is pretty stupid, and will never be able to guess what I want. I would much rather have the soldiers not have any weapons before the first mission. That way I don't have to strip them of their weapons before I arm them the way I want. Alternatively a "put everything back into inventory" button would do the trick.

There's an easy workaround for this. Unassign the soldiers from the aircraft, then reassign them. This doesn't address the put everything back issue though.

It should probably look at their skills, and equip the right weapons accordingly. For example, give the characters that are better with rifles the appropriate longer range weapon, etc.
