the current max is 512 - and i think we should really not have more than 512 models in a map. so the +forest theme should be fixed by a) removing some models, or b) fix the ump to ensure that less models are used due to better tile selecting (the harder of both solutions)

I just set MAX_LOCALMODELS to 555 and did 15+ retries with "forest large" and "forest large crash" EACH, encountering NO problems.

So the question is: can we afford 555 LMs for 2.4 ??
If not, what is the limiting factor ?
Memory, speed, polycount, whatever ?

I have not done any performance measurements yet - maybe it's not problem to increase it, but we should keep in mind that each model is added to the scene in each frame. so it's not zero cost to increase it.

If you mean LM_AddToScene and/or LM_Register:
I did some profiling. They're not even among the top100, ranking around 350 and 150 resp.
