Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/bugs/2945 Item 2945] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 19:54:51

...in the advanced video options.
Until 8 lights it works now, but trying to increase the number of dynamic lights further makes the game crash.

Done.

====== tlh2000 (2011-07-06 17:23:48) ======

so it's a crash in your ati driver.

2011/07/06 18:41:12 max supported lights: 8

and you were able to set it to a value higher than 8?
====== mcr2010 (2011-07-06 17:38:38) ======

yes. By clicking on the up-symbol (& thereby setting the number of lights to 9) the game crashed.
====== tlh2000 (2011-07-07 05:35:34) ======

strange - there should be a cvar check callback which checks that you don't set higher than 8
====== tlh2000 (2011-07-18 20:13:55) ======

r_dynamic_lights is the cvar we are talking about here, no?

there is a range check for this cvar between 1 and 8 (0 is only allowed if r_lights is set to 0, too)

see R_CvarCheckDynamicLights

Attached a screenshot showing that I indeed try to increase the number of r_dynamic_lights.
The screenie shows the graphics after clicking several times on the button pictured (did not move the mousepointer away ;))

clicking exactly where the mousepointer is

is this still the case in latest master? (after all the lighting system fixes)
====== alextishin (2011-10-17 00:19:10) ======

Works for me with the currently allowed range of 1 to 7 dynamic lights.
====== mcr2010 (2011-10-19 09:41:28) ======

I can still reproduce this.
This time on Linux:

Error: Received signal 11.

after rapidly changing the number of dynamic lights (increase/decrease/increase)
====== mcr2010 (2012-05-02 11:02:46) ======

The spinners' max value was still 8. I think this was causing the problem.
I fixed it here:
