Description
[http://sourceforge.net/p/ufoai/bugs/2791 Item 2791] imported from sourceforge.net tracker on 2013-01-28 19:47:16

Hello,
I deceided to switch to full screen and came upon a crash when entering battle.
To be more precise:
- I start the game
- I switch to full screen
- I load a savegame just before I go to where a UFO got smashed by my interceptor
- I see the load screen fine and trhe battlescape flashes before the game fully exits.

Please find attached a console_log (that reads: "ERROR: Unknown model type in R_DrawEntities entity chain: 0")
Also my game save.

I was running 2.3.1 on my win XP PC (dxdiag attached for more precision).

Ok so it is only one attached file, so... this:
http://pastebin.com/F6ZqvKDF
is where the dxdiag is stored.

Let me know if I can be of help.

thanks for reporting.

please set the cvar logfile_active to at least 2 (do this by opening the game console [shift+esc] and enter "logfile_active 2" or by editing your config.cfg in your appdata (see our FAQ - same location where ufoconsole.log is stored)

if you can reproduce the error with this setting, please attach the ufoconsole.log - i would like to know where it stopped with logging to see better where the error occurred.

Hi Tih2001,

Thanks for taking a look. I took 3 logs with the variable set, but it does not seem to give more content at the end where the crash occurs. I posted them here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/18f94r

_level2 was done with config.cfg containing set logfile_active 2
_level4 was done with config.cfg containing set logfile_active 4
_level2_console was done with going through shift+esc and typing set logfile_active 2

If I get enough time I will complete my install of the source version + editor etc and launch the debugger. Probably not until 3 weeks though, due to personnal agenda being a little bvusy until then. ;)

Thank you again for your support.

it would be cool if you could try the installer from:

http://ufoai.ninex.info/snapshots/ufoai-latest-win32.exe

if this installer crashes it should produce a crashdump.txt in the directory where ufo was started from (the installation directory in 99% of the cases)

Hi Tih2000,

Actually with this new installer I am unable to reproduce the bug.
I played the campaign for 2 hours straight, which means 3 missions, in full-screen, and no crash so far.

I am unsure whether I was able to put the game back into the exact same settings as I had before. Would you be interested in checking my old video settings maybe? Or can I just take some (all?) of the config files and put them in the usual directory to try it again?

(Usually I read that the game saves are not compatible, so I started a new game from scratch.)

BTW - Nice intro ! Great models behaviour !

One last thing - I noted around 10-12 "small things" that could need fixing. What is the most efficient way of reporting them without looking like a bugger to you guys? Is there a place that lists all 2.4-dev currently known bugs?
And is there a way I can help with the French translation?

Thanks again for your help. I will post a link from the forum to here, so that the other 2 persons who got the same problem might get the same fix.
Best of days!!
====== norabbitnofun (2011-01-30 14:22:43) ======

ooops sorry just got back to the forums - please ignore my basic question about where 2.4-dev bugs are listed (unless you rather see them in sourceforge than in the forum?)
====== tlh2000 (2011-01-30 14:32:11) ======

did you also try to switch from fullscreen to windowed and back?

set this to pending

for bugs, please open one ticket for one bug on this tracker (if they are not yet posted). they might get lost on the forum.

====== norabbitnofun (2011-01-30 15:52:06) ======

Yes, I just tried to switch fullscreen-windowed-fullscreen-windowed and it worked. I guess the fact that the game restarts solved the problem too.
BTW I cannot change the resolution (the game just does not seem to apply them). Even going out and back in does not seem to work. But I do not really mind anyways. ;)

THANKS!!!

Ok for bugs - actually I just posted them but I will copy here and link back. (Sorry for not waiting, I did not want my paper notes to go forgotten ;)
====== tlh2000 (2011-01-30 20:44:36) ======

there is a small button besides the resolution selectbox - you have to click it to test the chosen resolution.
====== norabbitnofun (2011-01-30 22:57:52) ======

Aaaah - so that's what the magnifier is for! Thanks, I had not understood.
Probable something more of an exclamation mark or right pointing arrow or tick or "ok" or whatever would have hinted me better. ;) But I guess you got that comment already.

I think this ticket needs closing. Thanks again!
