After turn off realtime lighting and restart ufo
Look at screenshot.
Two startup errors if realtime lighting off:

R_ProgramVariable: Could not find SAMPLER4 in program warp. (src/client/renderer/r_program.c: line 679)
R_ProgramVariable: Could not find GLOWSCALE in program warp. (src/client/renderer/r_program.c: line 682)


Two in game errors:
R_ProgramVariable: "GLOWSCALE" - No program bound. (src/client/renderer/r_sphere.c: line 266)
R_ProgramVariable: "BLENDSCALE" - No program bound. (src/client/renderer/r_sphere.c: line 264)

I'll take a look at this; my first instinct is that you shouldn't be able to have GLSL enabled with lighting disabled, in which case I'll just add a check to make sure that you can't do that. If anyone can think of a reason to have GLSL enabled but lighting disabled, let me know.

I'm seeing this same thing on Windows XP Pro SP3 with all revisions up to 30225.

However, I STRONGLY recommend that you do NOT apply your suggested solution, arisian.

The reason is that the realtime lighting is tied to the black models on ATI cards issue. Turning RTL off makes the models work correctly in battlescape even when GLSL shaders are on and turning RTL on and off does not require a game restart.

Currently the easiest way to work around the black model issue is to map keys like F5 and F6 to set real time lighting off and on and using those when you enter battlescape and when the battle ends so you don't need to go through the options menu.

I've fixed the transparency issue in the 2.3 branch by making realtime-lighting simply not affect the geoscape at all (basically, if you're using GLSL for the geoscape at all, you're using realtime-lighting by default, and always have been). I'll patch it into trunk at some point, but ultimately the real fix will be getting rid of the black/glowing models in the battlescape shaders. I'm working on that, too, but I can't replicate those errors, so it's hard to debug.
