In v2.2.1 there were such images in every research proposal mail. It was very informative: "Oh, this thing IS really a plasma rifle! OK, I get it."

Why there is only text left now? It's not good to the player who don't want to read all this great science-stuff,

They were removed intentionally they were too informative*. In fact we're going to remove those pictures from research screen as well.

*When you have a report asking for doing autopsy on an alien, you can't know how does it look inside - just an example.

Maybe it would be better to open ufopaedia windows directly from mail client instead of additional mail proposal window?

Because, basically, an ufopaedia includes research proposals to every item and also it has item's image and statistics which is very convenient and overall great for gameplay.
