Feature Requests / Research and Story/Gameplay progression

What if the aliens don't use their more advanced stuff until you've researched what they're currently fielding.

For example, researching the Taman autopsy results in Ortnoks being deployed, then Shevaars after the Ortnok autopsy.

Researching Plasma Pistols results in Rifles and later Heavy Plasma. Completing Heavy Plasma would result in Aliens using Particle beams.

It's just an idea based on the war escalating realistically.

I think it's a passable suggestion and feedback would be welcome.

It's almost 2 years old but I don't imagine they've made much progress and I don't know if the project's still running.

I think I'll bring this up again when UFO 2.4 is in the pre-planning stage.

Edit: Personally I think that the Laser Prototypes are doing better.

UHH, god do I hate that map.

1) "Military" civilians are to far away to rescue.

2) The Canyon is a friggin DeathTrap, but using it is mandatory.

In my opinion he really was the better candidate, I just didn't like his decision to take All of our troops out of Iraq.

It really should be up to the Iraqi people wether or not they need our soldiers' protection anymore.

But this thread should really just focus on Obama and the Election.

Design / Suggestion for the "Missile Battery"

We allready have the http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Base_Facilities/Missile_Battery,
It works by building it, buying or producing the Missile Launcher & Missiles, and then arming/equipping the Missile Battery.

The Base-Defense Laser turret is on hold pending development.
The real life counterpart is the THEL: Tactical High Energy Laser http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MTHEL
It's a chemical laser (like the ones in the game) thats been in development since the 1990s by the Marines and Israel.

My Idea is that the in-game Base-Defense Laser could be Purchased or Produced and then "Equipped" to the "Missile Battery"
I have also read that the ammunition for the "Aerial Laser Cannon" is to be freely supplied by the UN, we can use that system here to.

Thus the "Missile Battery" will become a customizable building; which is good because we can't yet destroy buildings, we can only reload a save point.

I realize that the game engine doesn't support fully destructible terrain :'(
But just hear me out,

I was watching Weaponology on the military channel US Army Engineers.
After the Engine is adjusted, we can have demo packs ;D

Use e'm to Blow Holes in Walls, Drop Down Through the Celling, and as Manually Detonated Land-mines 8)

Tactics / Confused About the Shotgun?

It's not really the Shotgun, It's the Ammo.

Sabot rounds have a range of 30, but use the "Close" Skill
Flechette rounds have a range of 15 but use the "Assault" Skill

Is it just me that thinks that the Skills should be swaped?


EDIT: what I mean is that...
  • Sabot rounds have more Accuracy/Range, less power, and fire 1 bullet per Sabot round; but have the "Close" skill
  • while Flechette rounds have less Accuracy/Range, more power, and fire multiple Flechettes per round; and have the "Assault" skill
  • That was in game, here online, Both ammo types have the "Assault skill

Which has the right info: Ingame or Online. Also, should this belong in the bug tracker for being an Ammo bug or a Typo?
