Taman - 1
Tamin - 2 or more

Or that's my suggestion.  :D

I was thinking "Taman" as singular, "Tamans" as plural, because people are just pedestrian enough to name them like that. It's simple and easy to remember and works in any language.

I think Taman is too complicated; It sounds like it was named by someone who  had an awful lot of time in a laboratory, being an anthropologist, archeologist or etymologist instead of the more one-track-minded Phalanx Command and its grunts who are the ones who encounter them on the battlefield.

Since it's in India, and we're talking about the imagination of soldiers, I could well envision them slanging up a "Two Buddhas spotted, taking aim!" "Greenie to your left!"

I couldn't envision that, myself, because the troops in question are not american; primarily Indian and Australian, actually. There's an extreme amount of difference between US slang and Britslang/Ozslang, let alone Indian, or Afrikaans.

I thought the phalanx soldiers were flown in, either from north america or europa, but if phalanx started in india then sure

but I still think, linguistically, trying too hard in finding a clever and subtle play on words to use for a name will make it too unique, and all of a sudden you have a name that sounds so alien that they might have named themselves that

but that's just my opinion (:

(btw i'm not from usa)

PHALANX project started days after the first attack, so the only soldiers in Mumbai battlefield was those of the regular army of Commonwealth.

They are called Blues in the files, so that could work.
Or Blue in Hindi.
