modding existing saves

Hay guys, im new to modding so i apologies if thos question in answered somewhere.

do you have to start a new game to get your mods working, or can you impliment them in to an existing save file?

"modding"... :)

Weapon/armour stat changes should be compatible (they're not saved into the savegame) but adding items, changing the tech tree might cause some issues as the old savegame doesn't know about the new stuff.

gooch359: that means you shouldn't have to restart if you've changed the data of existing items, but you will if you have added new items.
