Suddenly many started making new "X-coms"

Well, yeah i know and its not suddenly. There have been some X-Com Remakes over the past years (actually over the last 10 years). (UFO:After Series, UFO: Extraterrestrials etc) But i think its nice they dont abuse the X-COM license just for some FPS crap.

about a year ago, or maybe two, x-com the enemy unknown was voted the best computer game of all time, and that surely attracts some attention.

as for firaxis, i will not jump with joy until i see their features.
i would rather say that civ could have been a bit different here and there, with some rather kiss solutions (in my opinion), and the microing got copied in other games in endless repetition.

xenonauts has some neat ideas, especially the 'extra time units for extra aiming' (that, afaik, was a feature of jagged alliance) lets the player make more use of time units that might otherwise be wasted, and also involves some decision-making  :P
but their graphics looks bit too muddy in my opinion, just a little bit more saturated, especially shadows, would be better.

maybe some day some engineer will figure out a suitably kiss solution for doing destructible terrain better than the x-com tradition.
the ways to develop the game are numerous, now that i think of it, i better not even start :)

impressive.
unkiss perhaps, but intuitive : )
i guess they have just overdone some things, and a less flashy destruction would be a matter of parametrization.

It's still "Admiral" view.
You can scroll in tighter, not 1st person.

It also matters where you build your base because certain countries will
give you different bonuses.

From what I've read, it will be very research intensive in order for you to
achieve your mission goal.

Weapons can now be damaged in a fight, and non repairable.

- only one base
- abstracted ammo
- no TU, but two moves (move, shoot OR move, move, OR shoot, shoot)

Since it's a console game, you can kiss the real complexity/depth goodbye

The video, plus the three-part interview on rockpapershotgun, has actually raised my hopes. They might actually pull off something cool!

Looks nice, but again a bit too cartoonish for me to get totally cosy with it.

I can deffo buy these here http://ufoai.org/forum/index.php/topic,5278.msg49107.html#msg49107 (are they in game yet?), but the overbulked space marines stuff seen in the previews there are just a bit too over the top for pure joy...
