Discussion / Re: What are ufo:ai 2.2 cheats codes
« on: April 24, 2008, 07:44:47 pm »
I think I may have been misunderstood...I was referencing the OP original post at the head of this thread. I don't believe that cheats "should" be implemented. I was wondering why he would even want to cheat to get money, when there is plenty of money so long as the game is played decently. I wasn't referencing you Dev's for allowing cheats, so that people can cheat if they wish too. I just didn't want him thinking I was "slamming" him, for wanting to cheat...

Not a slam as people have the right to play however they want to. However, why would you even want to cheat in this game? More than half the fun is in trying to attain things as you go...that includes money. And money is in no short supply, so long as you keep your supporting countries paying you at the end of each month happy or better.

Discussion / Re: Missing Medium Alien Armour Proposal

Know where your coming from, but I wasn't meaning me specifically. I really have 0 skills in any area of programming, modeling or any such thing. 45 years old...4 kids, school...oh and Kenpo training 4-5 nights a week with the kids...not much time for learning the skills needed here. I barely have time to get in a little gaming a couple nights a week. I do think it's true though, that some of us visiting this site, wish we had skills already so we could help right now...not 6 months or a year down the road trying to learn stuff we have absolutely no clue about.

Think many of us would like to contribute...but we lack "any" skills whatsoever in that department. Guess, we'll just have to be patient, until someone skilled can help with that eventually. Sure be nice to eventually have some powered armor like X-com, or something similar. I won't even mention having rocket packs....opps I said I wouldn't mention... :)

Discussion / Re: Civilians... those little buggers.
« on: April 17, 2008, 10:05:58 pm »
Now that I've played for a bit, I can say the Civies are morons much of the time as well :) They either go right towards the aliens to be slaughtered like lemmings, or they somehow attach themselves to one of my soldiers hips and follow him/her around like a puppy...quite irritating little guys they can be at times.

I can somewhat understand the second one...if big bad aliens were looking to give "me" a dirt nap, I'd be hanging close to the guy with the big gun as well. But honestly...if I had the choice...I'd be making tracks for places unknown and getting out of dodge and away from the firefights if at all possible.

Now as to the first...and why they just seem at times to march towards their own destruction...that kind of baffles me...have they been drinking some type of AI adult beverages or something? ;D

The game itself is really on it's way to being something really great IMO once it's finished, so not really moaning about the civilians, but in all they could stand a little "awareness" improvement :)

Ok, I've now had a little time to actually play this game. I won't bother about what needs improvement / finished, plenty of that in other threads.

One comment...Bravo !!  From someone who played X-Com till it came out of my ears back in the 90's, your game here is well on it's way to surpassing it, in many if not all aspects IMO. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait until the finished game is finally able to be DL'd...whenever that time comes :)

Thank you, for making this game !!

Fair enough Sir, fair enough...still think it would be nice though.

BTAxis,  yes I know about the "v" key, I looked at all the key mappings, but I highly appreciate your feedback. I was just hoping that in the next version, perhaps the camera could be tilted with the F key downwards a little bit more...maybe another 10% or so. Would probably make it easier to see more of what your selected unit's LOS is seeing, so-to-speak. Maybe, it's not possible to code this, I know zero about such things, I just think it would be nice if it could be done.

I've just started playing recently so I can't comment to heavily on the game. I do think in regards to camera views...the tilt up and down F & R range of motion are pretty limited. Perhaps in a future version, it can be increased somewhat so as to not have to look quite so much from a downward angle...when your not wanting to :) Would be very nice, to be able to look almost from behind the unit ( over the shoulder almost ) that you have selected, at times to get more of that type of perspective. I know that you Developers have "tons" of stuff to implement and this is probably of not great concern to you, but I would think it wouldn't be all too difficult to increase the camera's ROM would it?

Discussion / Re: Feedback from one more XCOM vet
« on: April 06, 2008, 05:37:11 pm »
I have only found this game today, so I can make no intelligent comparisons to the X-COM I played back in the mid 90's. After reading John C's remarks, I can only hope his suggestions are applied to any future release of this game. I am amazed, but quite pleased that this is freeware... here's to your continued efforts and my salutes to the Dev team :)

EDIT: Would it be at all possible to allow the camera to be moved even further down ( perhaps an additional 5-10% ), as it is a bit difficult to see sometimes, from such an angle. I seem to remember that X-COM was not such an acute from the top down viewing angle...yet it was long ago so maybe it was so. Even using F and R completely, there is still not enough of a viewing angle adjustment as would be nice to have.
