Why just not throw away your money? It will be faster than "donate to free software". And will have the same level of sence.

Ah, right, I forgot this is the brainless polemics forum.
If you don't like free software, you shouldn't hang around in a gpl game forum, and if you don't have arguments, go write youtube comments.

Discussion / Ufo:AI jubilee!
« on: November 20, 2009, 12:12:18 am »
Hi guys,
in case noone has noticed: We're having a (half-)jubilee!
Today (according to sf.net) it's been exactly 1.5 years that the current stable version of Ufo:AI, 2.2.1, was finished.
I'd like to take this opportunity to once again say "thank you" for all the hard work, you have really built up an amazing game.
An incredible ~210,000 people have downloaded the linux, mac and win binaries (20k+22k+168k) since then from sourceforge alone, not including linux repositories, torrents and whatnot.
It's maybe a little sad, too, because all of those players don't get to see any of the great efforts that have been made in the last 18 months (which can be easily seen from the monthly update on the news page) - so feel encouraged to release a new stable before it's 3 years ;-) ...
So, keep up the great work everybody! As I don't really know who's part of development nowadays, everybody who invested brain power may feel adressed ;-)
Big regards,
Xaver

One last thought: If it makes you feel better to donate money somehow, you could also donate it to a charity org of your choice *and* report it here. That would certainly be appreciated by the devs :)

Why not donate "indirectly" to free software  (FLOSS)? http://donate.fsf.org/

Feature Requests / Re: Problem with openGL

Looks to me you need to install the libsdl-tff (maybe even libsdl-ttf-dev) packages.

On my Ubuntu system they are called:
libsdl-ttf2.0-dev - development files for SDL ttf library (version 2.0)
libsdl-ttf2.0-0 - TTF-Bibliothek f

EMail: Sounds like a clear bug. Please write a bug report to the bug tracker on sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ufoai) .

German translations: Please post the problematic strings, then someone will have a look at it.

Thanks for reporting!

Whow, what a great animation. Thank you, sitters.

Just one thing: I know I'm being picky here, but I think it would look a lot better if the not-sun-lit-side of earth was darker than the rest...

I'll start working on a wiki tutorial, for sure.

Please do! I'm interested but a noob too.

Discussion / Re: UFO:AI on Ebay??
« on: November 13, 2007, 08:58:07 pm »
I don't think everyone here understands that this guy doesn't do anything illegal. It's his good right to sell GPLed software. So I don't think you could get your money back, and I don't think you could do anything to stop that. (E.g., some weeks ago, I saw a shop chain selling OpenOffice here in germany. And think about Linux distributors!)

The only thing someone selling open source software has to do is, he has to give the complete source code to anyone interested...

Look for a log file in ~/.ufoai/[version]/...

Or what about a
Code: [Select]
$ ./ufo > mylogfile.txt
?

If there is no striking error in the log/console, please search this forum on how to debug / do a gdb backtrace (maybe on the wiki, too).

While we're discussing Matter/Antimatter propulsion:

Quote
"There is a highly-advanced cooling system continuously pumping liquid nitrogen through the engine housing in order to keep it cool"

That would mean the engine's never "warmer" than ~-196

I think if you tested the 2.2 beta (http://mattn.ninex.info/?page=Download), you could help a lot more...

I made a loading screen from a nice in-game screenshot (oriental05d, but intended for the night map). Had to GIMP it heavily, though (will we sometime have something like sky(boxes), BTW?)
Please let me know what you think (minor changes can still be made), and if we need more that kind of loading screens.

For brightness issues, mind that it would be shown fullscreen.

I like it...

Maybe at the end of the intro, or at least as a placeholder until we have an intro?

:-D In your spare time you write stories where knocked-out aliens get their skull crushed with bare fists, but shooting at an unarmed alien makes you sick? Interesting... *g
