It would be useful to have an introduction for beginners,
and a glossary.

There is a lot of terminology, e.g. brush, entity, vertex, etc.
that is not too obvious.

Hi,

I've got a few questions for 'old mappers' ;)

1, I got a few surprises with surface flags (like trans33 making a brush non-blocking for players) so I make extensive tests of major flags and put the results in http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Mapping/Surface_fields

Now I'm quite sure that most of those flags are 'historic' and not really used by UFO AI code. Does somebody have an exhaustive list of 'allowed and usefull' flags for UFO AI ? My 'best guess' based on the existing tutorials and maps would be:
    trans33
    trans66
    flow
    nodraw
    window ?
    water ?
    level1 to level8
    actorclip
    stepon

Is this correct ?

2, Being full of good ideas like all newbies, I have proposed a reorganisation of mapping tutorial links in the main mapping page

because I think newcomers are easily lost in the current list.(I know that for sure being one of them)
I have put 'Mapping for dummies' first because I definitely think a newcomer should start there. I put dimensions and levelflags with it for the same reason (might be better if those pages were somehow included in the MFD lessons).  Then I tried to categorize the other pages.

Does anybody disagree with it ? Or can I proceed with it ?

your proposal looks good, feel free to reorganise the mapping section

I don't disagree with your reorganization.  Makes sense to me.  I had hoped to at least finish portions of Lesson 2 before this was done, but I've been completely sidetracked by Viva Pinata and Shadowrun on the XBox lately, as well as getting an apartment, fixing my motorcycle so I can get to work, and a number of other real life things.

Good work on the flags.  However, one thing you didn't have an opportunity to test it would see is if visibility is blocked.  Windows will block players and shots, but not Line of Sight.  Though you usually want to Func_Breakable these anyway.

Hi,

I changed once again the mapping page. Last time I missed the links in the general section which should have been in mapping tutorial and since I don't like unfinished work, I stroke back.
So this time I
- suppress the link "GTKRadiant 1.4 Installation" (non existing page anyway)
- move links "QERadiant" and "Using GtkRadiant 1.4" to obsolete section (I guess we could erase them)
- put "Map compiling", "GTKradiant 1.5 installation" and "Entities" in the mapping tutorials/reference
- transfer and expand testing instructions from the main page to a dedicated "map testing" page
- wrote a new introduction for the mapping page to replace the previous "test instructions".

I hope it fits everybody.

Now maybe I will try to start (AND finish ;D) at least one map for UFO AI.

Sorry if I am wrong, but I thing the MFD and the svn are a bit confusing with its folder-system.

The MFD says:
You will find all the data you need for settings up version 1.5 or higher of GTKRadiant in our svn at src/tools/gtkradiant. Your GTKRadiant installation folder will have a games and several folders ending with .game. Just copy the file games/ufoai.game to your games folder for your GTKRadiant installation. After that copy the folder ufoai.game to your installation folder, too.

But it appears, that in the ufoai.game/base/ folder is a skript/ folder that should be placed in UFOAI-2.2.1/base/
Would be nice if someone could change the Path of this skript/ folder to
http://ufoai.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ufoai/ufoai/trunk/src/tools/gtkradiant/1.5/gamepack/ like in the 1.6 version. Then I can edit the wiki or something

My youtube channel has a few video tutorials on it for NetRadiant. Its very very similar to GTK Radiant. My tutorials are just general ones though, they are not specific to UFO:AI
