Alien supply ship
« on: October 06, 2012, 02:05:23 pm »
Hi,
Im making crashed verisions of each alien ship. Already done scout and fighter. Now I wanted to make a supply ship but, to me, existing model looks more like a human craft compared to design of both smaller ship. That's why i wanted to make a few modifications before tearing model to parts ;). I've made 2 versions of craft and wanted to know your opinion whether to change the existing model or leave it as it is and just make it crashed.

Ofcourse I will texture it the same way scout and fighter are now.

Here you have pictures of both ships compared to a model of fighter.

I like one with 'Y' joint style. 'Course, it's little bit less alien-style, but this one is much much more interesting and detailed with overall look, than blocky style.

The one standing next to the Fighter UFO is best for me.

Hi Isen. Nice to see you posting in the forums. The crashed UFO models you've provided are much appreciated.

I like your models and I agree the supply ship could look more alien. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that when replacing existing models we must reconstruct the geometry in a map editor in order to provide collision detection. Weapons, soldiers, and whatever can move right through models in the map without this extra work. I'm not opposed to replacing the supply ships, but it means that it may not be implemented very quickly because someone (likely ShipIt, myself and mattn) will need to do the work in every supply ship in every map. I don't want to discourage you, but just let you know up-front before you put a lot of time into it.

On the models, I agree with ShipIt and Anderty. The one next to the fighter looks cooler.

Thanks H-Hour,
In that case, I'll focus on "crashing" existing model and leave this project until more importaint things are done.

Isen,

I really like your model. So if you get it done, I will put in the time needed to get it into our maps. But this need would need to happen soon, as right now we do not yet have a lot of maps with the Supply UFO.

Well there ya go. That's as good a green light as you'll ever get with this project! :)

wow - i really like the models. for me the y-form looks best imo. and i would replace the existing models in the maps with pleasure. So please continue to do the models. As we don't have any crash models for the supply ship anyway, it would be great if you could also provide disassembled parts of the ufo.

one more note, in case you decide to continue with only one of them, please also upload and share the mesh for the other one.

Ok.
I just finished the main model. Curently I'm making crashed version. I know mapping isn't perfect but model is wrapped so changing texture isn't a big deal.
Mattn, I will sent to you whole package (models textures and rest) as soon as I finish crashed part.

Suuper! The interior could have some detail, but it will only be important in maps, which may mean rebuilding the mesh in radiant, don't know....
