Scout drone
« on: June 15, 2012, 07:02:21 pm »
Well, some of you might've seen this on the IRC over the past month or so, so, without further ado:
http://egzodus.com/dir/SCT_DR.jpg

The model and the rest will be released once i finish animating the thing.
Textures were made in 1024x1024, a mixture of photoshop and Cinema4D. Modelling also in C4D.
Totals in at 978 triangles.

Also, have a youtube video of an early walk cycle test: Courtesy of Youtube

BTW, it is very nice, but it looks strange. I dont see how it can walk with only 4 paws.

Why not? Any pose which got the center of mass projected to earth within the polygon made by connecting outer contact points is statically stable.
Thats's why we've got a long feet whose backsides are as back down as our shoulders -- to provide a stable standing pose.

With this bot, statically stable walking seems pretty much simple: for each leg, shift balance a bit so COM is inside the triangle made by other 3 legs, move that leg to the new position, repeat with the next leg.

And there you have it.
Pretty much how most terrestrial animals do it too, from what I remember.

They dont have the same legs location. Legs are much more under the body, next to the gravity center.
Sure, it also can work with 2, or only with one leg, but i will not bet money on that design, that's all.

deaths and walking variants. stand anims are basically "idle" animations, right?

yes, stand is just idle. we need different stand animations for human due to the way some weapons are hold. but this is not needed in this case.
