missing alien breathing devices

I just noticed after starting a new game in the official release that I'm not seeing the alien breathing devices on missions I win & it looks like I should as I see items being recovered in the after mission report but I don't see items appearing at my base other than weapons.

Also I thought I'd have faced Ortnocs or the little metal spiders (can't think of name offhand) by now but all I've faced in just over 3 months game time has been Tamans.

It can be researched, but is not used for any other purpose anymore.
