You're not alone, I think it's a known issue, and I saw a few commits to the repo master in the last few days changing audio code.

I'm guessing it will eventually be cleared up.

Yep, sound was screwed a bit (by me). Not completely, just 'off by one', giving you the funny effects you described.

Fixed in latest HEAD.

I even addicted to NEO sound

As I pld a misison, and was getting game crush, like three times in raw, and after I  finnaly decided run UFO in DBG I pld this mission 10 times! and not a single crush...
And only these sound effects surprices were kept my mood up
