the carrier should have the size of half the moon if i remember correctly. So doing an animation with it only makes sense from the space. not from the earth.
You may be thinking of the alien mothership, Mattn.
The Carrier is only supposed to be several hundred metres to a side, which is still absolutely massive from a human standpoint, but won't kill all life on Earth when it crashes.
