Possible places to look for artists
« on: April 01, 2009, 01:59:15 pm »
Hello,

I found this on StrategyCore forums - some concept art forum made some kind of contest for revamping chryssalid, topic is here:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=84308

As you see there some talented people there, maybe they could help you with concepts and ufopaedia graphics.
There are subforum for non-paying job listing, which probably would be right place to ask for help:
http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=44

P.S Are you inviting artists for ufo:ai on other forums/pages? There are probably many places where you could ask for help - like 3d/2d graphics forums, blender forums, game developers forums etc.

I tried to register for that forum, but I can't since registrations are disabled.

:( Maybe some other time you will get more luck.

Another place, blender artist forum, i think this is right forum to ask (i haven't found dedicated forum for job offers):

Here are some rules:

X-com fan art on strategycore:
http://www.strategycore.co.uk/forums/Official-X-COM-Fan-Art-thread-t619.html

Searching "x-com" on deviantart, probably won't be easy to contact authors but there are fans so maybe they would be willing to help:
http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=&section=&q=%22x-com%22

And some more:

http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/forum.asp?forum_id=8

Battle for wesnoth has many talented 2d artists which they already are working for open source project, so maybe they could also help:

The rules for blenderartists basically say they don't want first time posters - anyone got an account there?

IMHO it's more of a tip than requirement.  They recommend to have post count if you want to be listened to. I think that you have advantage of having functional project - you aren't some people with plans.

Here are some examples from persons with one and two post count:
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=152043
http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?t=151864

But i can be wrong of course.

I did submit a registration for one of the other forums, though, but the email with the password never arrived... I can't have mistyped anything because I have autocomplete for forms like that. Oh well, plenty of other options.

Maybe you have some problems with your mail account? Or maybe those mails are classified as spam and are added into spam mailbox?

Possibly, but I usually use that email to register for forums, and it works. This is a non-standard forum, though, so it wouldn't be too strange if it was handled differently.

If you're using mail application, try to log on your webmail - maybe there is some kind of spam mailbox.

I've submitted a post to the blender forums, we'll see if it gets approved or not. There's also a post on game-artist.net. I've sent a mail asking for help to the forum that didn't send me a confirmation reply. I also tried to post on strategycore, but I think their forum may be broken, because my post didn't appear. Besides, their special projects forum doesn't really get much activity, it seems.
