Game doesn't start
« on: June 24, 2008, 01:04:50 am »
Hi!

Some hours ago i downloaded UFO:AI 2.2.1 and installed it.

When i try to start it, i only see a console and a pop-up-like-window shows up, telling me where to download the game. After clicking into that window it hangs up.

...and i do not know what to do with that console. I just want to play the game and i don't want to be a programmer.

Could anyone please tell me?

Greetings

well, the screen should be mostly black with a pretty randering of a guy and a girl with guns and an a geek in a labcoat.  at the bottom of the screen there should be a light grey rectangular (hopefully) expanding progress bar.  so, if you wait a little and not click anywhere, does anything interesting happen?  To be clear, a growing progress bar does constitute "interesting" in this case.

O.K.

After i wait for a minute or three i could hear music and then the game started!

Thanks for helping in such a short time!!

Btw.: That window does not fit into my "Windows-window", means that i can see only a part of it.

But for now thanks again and i hope not to bother you with such stupid questions again.

Have fun what ever you're doing

Hi again!

I realized that the game runs in a window, not in fullscreen.

How can i change this - if possible?

No problem.  Hit escape, selsct "options", under "video" you should be able to select the resolution.  Or "full screen" should (try to?) fit the game to your screen size.  What is the resolution you are using?

minute or three to start, eh?  It does sound very painful.
1. Is there other stuff running?  Maybe hiding in the background and munching on system resources?
2. Is the hard drive running the whole time?  I.e. is the system swapping?
3. What sort of hardware do you have - CPU, RAM, OS?

Hi!

Now i found it and the game runs in fullscreen and stable!

Thanks to all who answered my stupido-questions!
I have to admit that i didn't look into the options when the "problem" occurred as i use to do it in mostly all of
the other cases. I think i was too tired.

But nevertheless now this superb game is running fine.

I use an older system: Duron 1,2 MHz, 512 RAM, Geforce5 128, XPprof.
I want to upgrade this hardware, but right now i have to spend the money for more important things.

Thanks again
