My geoscape is *way* too bright

On linux (ubuntu feisty), I find that my geoscape is extremely bright (See above link), could someone please help me get it right?
I am not particularly good at hardware stuff, but I *think* it's a linux "driver" for my graphics card, which is an on-board Intel 945 chipset (I think)...

try to use the 2d geoscape - the 3d geoscape is using some opengl lights that are screwed up on your system.
