Game wont launch correctly!

I am running FC7 using an ati pcie ati x1950 on an athlon x2 4600+  which is all fine and dandy.

Heard about ufoai and wanted to try it!

Downloaded and installed fine.

It didnt launch - needed several packages, got those and it launched to the main menu screen. Here all i get is a half second clip of music every 3 or so seconds - followed by the mouse only moving when that small snippet of music playing before it all crashes and dies - and I need to restart x!

Problem is, I dont know where to find the error log or crash report.

Could somebody please help me solve this problem!

just run it from within a terminal (xterm or something like that)

problem is it crashes x, so i cant ever see wot it says!

Look for a log file in ~/.ufoai/[version]/...

Or what about a
Code: [Select]
$ ./ufo > mylogfile.txt
?

If there is no striking error in the log/console, please search this forum on how to debug / do a gdb backtrace (maybe on the wiki, too).

try to start ufo via the debugger:

gdb ufo
run

if this also crashes your x - try to do this via

export DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0; gdb ufo
run

from a text console

if you get a valid gdb session that doesn't crash your X, please type bt and send the output

"Error couldn't open the X display" - so the export doesn't work - so i suppose running ufo via gdb in x is crashing your x sessions, too?

which drivers are you using?

for graphics?

I have installed the latest ati drivers for my x1950 radeon pci express card, and run aticonfig --initial - so i presume its using those?

i'm sorry, that's something where i can't be a big help - you should ask in the fedora forums.

in general you should try the following:
* load the fglrx driver not ati or vesa
* type glxinfo | grep direct - this should print Direct rendering: Yes (if you have a no here, something went wrong)
