One of the most endearing features of the original UFO game was being able to rename the soldiers as people you know.

We often used to play in groups with many people taking their brothers and friends on missions only to lose them tragically. I mean, who cares if Bjorn Barg gets shot, but if this soldier carried my name I'd be inclined to protect him.

It would be an easy fix, I'm sure.

No!

;) I think this is going to be added soon.

Btw. Cheers, I lived in Liverpool for almost a year. Interesting place for a newcomer (scouse english o_O).

rename the soldiers

In v2.0 you could rename soldiers in the hire and/or equip-screen.
Just click (or right-click) on the name-field.

(I uninstalled the old version v2.0, so I cannot check right now)

Yes, there was an edit name button in 2.0. I don't understand why it was removed in 2.1, though.

It was removed because of introducing scrolling in Hire menu. The renaming feature with scrolling code simply didn't work as expected and produced a lot of bugs.

That's too bad. I hope it will be re-implemented in one form or another in the future. It's such a nice feature.

I will try to reimplement it for 2.1.1 today or at the weekend, but if the testing fails, it will be postponed to 2.2, I am sorry.

Employees renaming (in Hire menu) (re)implemented to trunk in r7837. If anyone uses trunk, please test that. If tests will be passed, we will include that to 2.1.1.
