The "behind cockpit" layout is generally disliked, even though it's the best from aerodynamics point of view, since it brings design closer to be conformant to the area rule. If one builds a real-life model of it (smoothed, of course), it could have even less transsonic/supersonic drag than the original 2-engine version.
PS:
while checking wikipedia for the "area rule" page (to see if I should give a longer explanation, or just refer to it), I've found that one of the drawings is very close to the "engines behind cockpit" version ... and cited from the German 1944 patent!!!
