CRASH-MAGEDDON OF BUGS

Just for a few days after I'm dealing with this game, I experienced a lots of bugs, which is pity, since this game is awesome. I really want to play it, but even with a relatively small chance of happening, bugs 3,4,5 makes the game practically unplayable to me. ~95% of my games crash with one of these (3,4,5) bugs. Heeeeeeeeeeeeelp me...



Version :

The so called "stable" Win32 2.4, downloaded from this site.



System :

Windows XP Professional SP3 x86, in a perfect condition, latest DirectX, and the latest drivers for every part.

The model of my lame laptop is "HP Compaq 6735s", You can find info about every component in the internet.

I'm planning to test this bugs on my good desktop PC, and on the PCs of friends of mine, which differs a lot from my laptop parameters.



1) BUG NAME : pilot skin crash

This happens always. Easy to replicate : Multiplayer>Team>Pilot>New. This leads to a crash to the desktop console with :

CHRSH_CharGenAbilitySkills: No multiplayer character template found (soldier_mp)

If the team is created in the skirmish mode (not multiplayer), everything is OK.



2) BUG NAME : UGVs & bloodspiders shoot crash

This happens always. In the skirmish mode or multiplayer, when a UGV is selected for my team skins, and the game started, and I click on my target, and the UGV is about to shoot, the game crash to the main menu. The console say :

3) BUG NAME : entnum above 100 crash

After killing a lots of aliens in the skirmish mode or multiplayer, the game suddenly crash to the main menu. I think (not sure), that this happens in EVERY GAME and ONLY when (Spawned ai player for team 7 with entnum ##) ## is over 100. The console say :

4) BUG NAME : panic alien hang up

Sometimes, ~10% random chance, when is the AI turn (and the AI have a panicked alien, I suppose), the game hang up forever to oblivion, the cursor is the hour glass and I can't do anything. The console repeat this forever :

2012/06/29 23:45:40 Reaction fire enabled but no weapon for hand (name=Fsshw Vze Hzwzf,hand=1,fmIdx=0)



5) BUG NAME : shoot = ALT+F4

Sometimes, when I click on the target of my soldier and the shooting is exactly about to start (any weapon), there is ~30% chance that the game will lag for a less than a second (a CPU lag, a not FPS drop) and after this everything is ok, or there is ~10% chance that the game will crash to the desktop. No console, no console error, no windows crash window, no nothing, it's like I "end task" the game from the task manager. 10% is a small chance, but practically in a long game with many shoots, it happens EVERY GAME. The last thing that is in the ufoconsole.log is not a error :

6) BUG NAME : dead civilian crash

This happened only once to me, in the skirmish mode. When it was the civilians last turn, after I lost, the game crash to the main menu. The console say :

7) BUG NAME : many items in one hand

This happened only once to me, in the skirmish mode. Immediately when my turn started (don't know what cause it), the game crash to the main menu. The console say :

For bugs 1 and 2: team selection in skirmish and multiplayer is still a new and poorly tested feature. Stick with Phalanx for now. Also, UGVs are not implemented. The UGV team selection should have been disabled for the 2.4 release, but it was apparently overlooked.

I'm just trying to help You making this game PLAYABLE, since I'm a big X-COM fan. 1) and 2) are not big problems, but what about the other bugs that crashed the game almost every game? I can't understand something :... I play only single battles, but how the other people play campaign with so much crashes? Is it only me, and something is very wrong with my system?



8 ) BUG NAME : entnum = -1   WTF?!

9) BUG NAME : corrupted corrupter

A map defect or I'm just a noob? In the "corrupter crash map" I can't go in the corrupter any further, as You can see in the attachment.

In the 1st floor of the corrupter main body room with the 2 stairs, it's the same. I just can't go in the second floor from anywhere.



I'll keep overload You with bugs.  ;)

I almost never crash. I suspect it's one of two things.

1) Your system. Perhaps you have a corrupted install or something, but my guess is that the game wouldn't even load if that were the case.

2) The settings you are using to play single battles. We have some options in skirmish and multiplayer that are not terribly well tested. Perhaps you are triggering bugs because you are playing with more aliens than most people, some of the skirmish-only weapons, the alien rush setting, uncommon teams, or other options that mean your skirmish battles encounter situations that would not be common in the campaign.

it looks like you find all the bugs that other have not yet found ;)

and it's a great help to have your detailed bugreports - so please continue to post them as you find them in the detailed way you did before.

i was able to solve at least two of your reported bugs today for 2.5-dev.

Which two?



After I readed your post H-Hour, I realize that it is 100% the number 2). I will not deny, that I use all the weapons, experimenting with different game settings, even I tried vs 32 aliens + rush mode, but I never experienced the joy to finish a game like this for an obvious reasons... The most crashes are when I shoot or it's the AI turn. But this makes me useful bug tester, right? My reports will continue.



I almost never crash.

10) BUG NAME : stunned civilian hang up

This maybe happens always. If an alien stuns a civilian, with a stun rod, the game hang up forever during this AI turn. Since, I had to "end task" the game, the console file didn't save, but the last line was something like :

**ANY TIME HERE** [STATS] alien (**BLAH BLAH**) stunned civilian (**BLAH BLAH**) with **STUN ROD BLAH BLAH**



Are You plan to fix the "fueldump map" in multiplayer (and it's possible to go IN the building)?

I can't find the bomb, but anyway...

The map "+city2 city2" hang up the game always, when I click the start button. I suppose it's not ready for multiplayer?

The game still crash/freeze sometimes, about ~5% of the battles, and at some locations in Europe, the game freezes and the battlescape simply don't load. This time, I will submit a map problem. In the map called "tower" (a very hard battle vs A LOTS of well placed and good equipped aliens), I simply can't go on the top of the one of the buildings.

Fixed this one and another passage on level 1 too. Thanks for reporting.
