Your rank images are now included in our repo.

I've added them under GNU GPL 2 or later license and credited Kahvipannu84. Please let me know if you would like something different. View the license file changes.

Attached is an image showing the final product at 64x64. I'll be adding the full-res to our data source for future use.

BTW should we update other ranks? rank_medic.png... or simply remove them?

I would suggest we remove them but place them in data_source for future use if we ever want them again.

I'm sorry, but those new rank images look like indexed bitmap graphics from the 80's.
They do not match our existing 3d renderings made by Werner Hoehrer in quality by far.
Also their style does not fit at all (what about the Phalanx logo ?) and they are incomplete.
Smaller scales of those in 16x16 do not reveal the rank anymore, they just look like pixel porridge then...

It sounds strange, but I completely agreed with MCR at this point.

Some of this images can be used as medals, not as rank. They just do not fit the ranks symbols.

Hmm, I see your points, specially the reference to medals. If I do more personal changes I post them here, maybe something will be use for you at some point.  :)

Phalanx ranks somewhat resembles the coat of arms of S.U.

Well, tried it (attached to this post), but it looks like it is less readable at small scale than the globe from the original logo (did it quick, but it doesn't look like it could improve much).

Of course, this kind of globe icons might be most readable at small scale, which is probably what they are designed for.
No continents, but the tilt might identify the planet as Earth nevertheless.

How about using the new rank images for the new UI2, but restoring the old ones for the original UI ?

the point is? the original ui will be removed once ui2 is done.
