UFO: AI 2 --- underwater (Like TFTD)
« on: July 02, 2010, 11:38:39 am »
So I've been reading some Cthulhu stories lately and my mind wandered back to TFTD. I was wondering if you guys are into making an underwater version of UFO AI and come up with something better than TFTD --- it'd be awesome to see a TFTD successor with convincing underwater physics.

That would be nice, but I think we should concentrate on finishing the first one, before any talk of a sequel of any kind.

Good point!  :D

I'm just awfully curious though what TFTD would have been like if they had gotten the "underwater feel" right.

I guess it's not a good idea to make a new game in underwater environments (too boring). But some of those ideas could be incorporated into this game. For example, alien bases on Earth could be located only underwater and require a specifically designed craft/ship to get there and dock to entrance. Also, in 2083, there could be some small human underwater settlements attacked by aliens, i.e. built close to deuterium mining plants for our thermonuclear reactors - most important since aliens interrupted all deliveries from Mars (in Martian underground water tanks there's much greater deuterium percentage then on Earth). Of course, all of these would require whole new, interesting research branches.

Wait, humanity already made it to Mars in this storyline?

I want my von-Neumann probes! ;)

On the other side, you can already see the moon in global view mode, maybe it would be worth to ship some ICBMs up and intercept some ufos.

LOL! all I can picture now is the USA or Russia slamming their fists down on the big red button at first sight of a UFO,

Well, we could easily do it by 2083. Although I guess we won't. But, hypothetically, we could build those clumsy ships that look like space stations with engines, some modules for transport from the ground and one mining plant (which could mine enough deuterium for one third of Earth's electrical power needs - thermonuclear reactors are very powerful).

Ever reef snorkeled alone in waters that are 15 feet (or more) deep? At times it's scary; you don't know what will appear from the deep blue to your right. I did it once just for kicks and swam in 30 feet deep waters.

But ya, the devs should concentrate on 2.3 atm.

Well it is known that many real UFO's goes underwater, there must be some underwater/underground facilities indeed...
