I have downloaded the latest version on my mac mini running Leopard 10.5.8 with 2.26 GHz Intel Core Duo, 4gb 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM and NVIDIA GeForce 9400.

I have no Idea where to get logs, as the game never runs just crashes. I would love to be more helpful, I really am trying to understand how to be helpful but don't really understand much of the terms or way of thinking used by developers. I miss the game. I hope mac users can play in the future. May be a section in dumbed down language on how to help written by a person who overcame the language/thinking barrier.

I consider myself as getting a free horse, so will wait as long as it takes. Thank for your hard work.

Downloaded the Intel installer posted here 16-Oct-11 twice yesterday. OSX 10.7.2 gives an error when I try to mount: "ufoai-2.40-dev-macosx-intel.dmg not recognized."

So I compiled Intel 2.4-dev from source last night, which I assume is at least as up-to-date as the installer posted here. It crashes on launch, after starting to play the music.

UFOAI console log looks much the same as the one posted here 26-Sep-11, but ends:

2012/01/20 15:07:01 Haven't found a video stream in ogm-file (videos/intro.ogm)
2012/01/20 15:07:01 Could not load cinematic 'videos/intro'

~/ufoai/base/videos does contain an intro.ogm, so I gather there's something wrong with that file?

Re: OSX installers
« Reply #140 on: January 23, 2012, 09:44:33 am »
I need some help getting through the installation process.  I just discovered the original XCOM a couple days ago, and when I found this I jumped for a chance to try it out.  However, id doesn't seem to be a simple plug-and-play download.  I am running OSX 10.6.8 and and downloaded the corresponding file, version 2.3.1 of the game.  However, simply trying to open the file gets me this:

Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/SDL_image.framework/Versions/A/SDL_image
Referenced from: /Volumes/UFO: Alien Invasion 2.3.1/UFOAI.app/Contents/MacOS/ufo
  Reason: image not found

I looked through http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Compile_for_Mac - however, most of it went far over my head, and I'm not even sure that information is what I need; I don't understand the tech at that level.

Is one of the files available from http://ufoai.ninex.info/snapshots/ what I need?  Am I missing just something stupid?

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  Just thinking about other new users like me, is there any reason the official download page is not updated with the correct file?

Also, when I looked at the snapshots last night, I saw one titled ufoai-2.3.1-macosx-i386, which is no longer available.  Why was the stable build taken off the page?

EDIT: I just downloaded ufoai-2.4-dev-macosx-intel, and like with the file I downloaded from the normal download page, it says the file can't be opened because the disk image is not recognized.  Do you know the cause of that?

2.4 is not yet released. "-dev" suffix intend to say that.

Probably because we got reports about it's not working.

About the snapshot package, well, I don't know Macs, I can't help, maybe mattn..

Thanks for the info, that helps clear it up.  I downloaded the -dev version because the stable one was missing, and I assumed the -dev was a 'beta' test build.

Assuming that the problem is with the program, not my computer (although that may be wrong), where can I get the previous stable version of the game?  The download page still lists 2.3.1 as the current release.

(For any other commenters, obviously any info about the disk image/library issue would be welcome.)

If you're referring to the latest (16-Oct-11) 2.4-dev Intel install from this thread, I reported the same error on 20-Jan-12, above.

If you mean the latest (21-Jan-12) build in snapshots, OSX 10.7.2 gives me a slightly different error when I try to mount that .dmg: "No mountable file systems."

Looks like the process being used to create these .dmgs is faulty, as far as 10.7.2 is concerned anyway.

Furthering the confusion, if was the latter (21-Jan-2012) file that I downloaded.  But I agree with you completely, the .dmg created is not readable (?).  It's possible there is a workaround from our end, depending on the extent of the problem, but I have no real knowledge of .dmg files, and wouldn't be comfortable manually adjusting the file or whatever mechanism the computer uses to read it.  It looks like Mac users won't have access to new versions for the time being.  Is that an accurate conclusion?

Not possible to fix this ourselves. Furthermore, the current 2.4-dev Intel crashes on launch even if you compile it yourself, anyway. See the posts from PazAmericano and me, 20- and 22-Jan, above.

Right. My guess is that Mattn is looking into all this and will enlighten us shortly.

BTW, suggest you start mentioning what version of OSX you're using and perhaps hardware (as relevant) when reporting problems. Helps them make better-educated guesses about what might be wrong.

Already listed my OSX as 10.6.8 above, although it appears this affects multiple/all versions.  For thoroughness, as I'm not sure what specs I should give, here is the automatically generated Apple report created when I tried to open the 2.3.1 files (the stable version, which is no longer available), minus some unnecessary/personally identifying data:

Code: [Select]
Process:         ufo [9862]
Path:            /Volumes/UFO: Alien Invasion 2.3.1/UFOAI.app/Contents/MacOS/ufo
Identifier:      net.sourceforge.UFOAI
Version:         ??? (???)
Code Type:       X86 (Native)
Parent Process:  launchd [105]

OS Version:      Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
Report Version:  6

Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000
Crashed Thread:  0

Dyld Error Message:
  Library not loaded: /opt/local/Library/Frameworks/SDL_image.framework/Versions/A/SDL_image
Referenced from: /Volumes/UFO: Alien Invasion 2.3.1/UFOAI.app/Contents/MacOS/ufo
  Reason: image not found

Binary Images:
0x8fe00000 - 0x8fe4162b  dyld 132.1 (???) <A4F6ADCC-6448-37B4-ED6C-ABB2CD06F448> /usr/lib/dyld

Model: MacBookPro7,1, BootROM MBP71.0039.B0B, 2 processors, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz, 4 GB, SMC 1.62f6
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 320M, NVIDIA GeForce 320M, PCI, 256 MB
Memory Module: global_name

The other -dev version I tried didn't even let me get far enough to create a report.

I'm willing to provide other information, but am honestly not sure what to send, short of every single spec under 'About This Mac.'

Sorry -- missed it. Bears repeating for the benefit of the visually challenged.  :-[

Otherwise, I just meant that if you have a graphics problem, for example, it's worth mentioning which card you have.

UFOAI console logs appear in your Documents folder, in folders named according to the UFOAI version. But you have none yet since you can't even open the dmgs.
