Potential Artist
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:24:59 am »
Hello, I'm geartrooper.  I'm a big fan of UFO:Alien Invasion, and have played through for the second time in a year.  I am currently the lead 3d artist for another free game, and am well-versed in modeling, animation, normal mapping, all things 3d.  I'd like to help out if I can squeeze you guys in between my other projects because I believe in this game.  I'm in the process of updating my website with new material, but you can check out whats there at www.johnny3d.promail.ca/gallery .  (the game I'm developing art for is Sauerbraten).

Will normal mapping be introduced?
Any plans for a full scale war map/scenarios?

hi - first: thanks for your offer - we definitely need help with animation and modelling.

normalmapping (bumpmapping, specular lighting and so on) was already introduced - you should try the most recent svn revision (and update often - we had ~80 updated only yesterday)

some really nice work on your site.

we could need models like this one for our powerarmour (which is already "finished" - but not fully animated yet) or for our flying suits.

we are lacking character models on all sides. civilians should be a lot more. more soldier models wouldn't hurt, too. and our alien races only have one model for each race. you see - you need modellers - we need you!

That's not the same as "not animated".

Right now I'm in the midst of preparing hudguns and vweps for another game.  After I get that finished I'd like to start work on what's needed.

that would be great. you could start with the following:

http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Mails/Headers

you should maybe also check out our data_source repo (see http://ufoai.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ufoai/ufoai/data_source/ )

for a more complete list see http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/TODO/General#Models

you might find some useful information at our wiki site about modelling at http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Modelling

Hi Mattn, I just saw this -- mail_from_xo is supposed to use the existing howard.md2. What is that being used for at the moment?

As far as I'm aware we only need a head for mail_from_un.

Regards,
Winter

Hi guys,

First I must apologize.  I have decided to throw my hat into the open source gaming ring and will not have the extra time I thought to help with UFOAI.  Please forgive me.  I support this project with
high esteem, though, and wish you guys complete success in this project.

Adieu,

geartrooper
