How do I change my soldiers' equipment?

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to access or change my soldier's gear while at base.  I am using the Mac version of the game and on missions, the Inventory button does work but I can't find how to change my soldier's weapons or other gear in between missions.   Is there a manual or help file for the game?

If some nice person can help me out, I would appreciate it.  UFO: AI is a fantastic game that looks and plays like an improved version of the originals and that is saying something.  It makes me want to learn programming just to help out.
