Hi,
a question which bothers me for some time.
The whole earth is attacked by an alien invader. But instead of joining all forces together (Independance day like) and throw a million soldiers against the 'few' aliens which land occasionally, you recruit some newbie soldier (stats are only in the 30s, at best, from their potential, thats hardly good for fully trained elite soldiers) and build a handful bases ? Why not use existing military installations all over the world.
OK in a computer game this could hardly be handled :-)
One story driven answer could be, that alien infiltration of the goverments had happend ...
The situation reminds me a bit on Tom Glancy Rainbow Six if I remember correctly.
So any thoughts are welcome ...
