Hi!

I noticed that the finnish translation is way behind the others and since I have lots of free time, I could start translating. Also I noticed some major mistakes in it. Some of the words are not even remotely related to the original english word. For example, Community Center has been translated into Komentokeskus which actually means Headquarter.

So, when do I get started?

Maybe wanted to ask How. :)

Read our wiki article about translating.
Use the po file from SVN for translating.

I can help with the Swedish translation :) I was wondering about the .po file. How do I know if someone else is working on it at the same time?

you can't - make your patches and we will merge them (but we never had such a situation until now)

Here's an update to the Swedish translation of revision 22757 (http://ufoai.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/ufoai/ufoai/trunk/src/po/ufoai-sv.po?view=log)

The update can be found here:
http://drop.io/agegass

It's about 50-200 rows done.

I tried to upload it to the tracker but it complained like 20 times that the 800 kb file was to large.

I think you can try it out - do some translation and then compile. Because there seems to be no Latvian translation in moment, then you should make new translation file - look at wiki in http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Translating#Generate_new_language_file

Translate some sentences with diacritic marks, try to be sure before were they are used and search through .po file for double too. Then compile - in Linux through terminal "make" and "make lang" - last one is important for language files compilation and will show that you have done changes.

Estonian, with only õ and ž as rare characters.

For Minor Updating and Correction Across Multiple Translation Files

Hi,

In the /src/po/*.po files,

Line:
#: ../base/maps/spedition.ump:43
msgid "Spedition"
msgstr "Spedition"

Spedition is a German word. "Spedition" in German is shipping in English.
Since this refers to a map, I believe that map's name could be proposed to be : "Shipping Convoy" or "Shipyard"? I have not come across that map and maybe if someone could post a screenie of this map, i can better translate that. (I am trying to helpout the chinese Zh_CN translation, polishing it if u may say).

Hi,

made my 1st WIKI-entry (Dragon class interceptor in German), can s/o please review it and give feedback?
a) if it's technically ok (links etc)
b) if it's correct (I'm not very good in military/technical terms)

Thx!

That's one of the main reasons for my question. ;D
It's 1:1 translated from the original, but I don't have a clue, what it could really mean???
I thought of something like "Dogfight", but I didn't want to translate too freely...

i need some pointers as to where do i start with the translation;

i work on windows xp platform and i have the POedit

i was looking for basic instructions, yet the page was emty:

http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Translating

also, i have just downloaded the ufoai-en.po file too

as far as i understand, i need to load it into poedit and change the character properties to represent my native language;

give me a little push in the back side :p and i will figure out the rest
