Impossible to play

OK guys, i realy love x-com games... but this game, i can't play.
I have a athlon 3000+ with 1gb ram and ati x300 on win xp/sp2.
With Ati CC 8.5 the game freeze in start window (blank window).
With older CC version i enter the game, but in the first mission the game crash. I try more then 10 times, with sound, whitout... the same thing. Try debug mode, the same.
I have no log or config file more, because i uninstall the game. Every time the game crash i have to restart my pc.
Can somebody help? Because i see few things, but i think you guys realy pick up the x-com original essence... and i want try  ;)
ps: i download the 2.21 version
I don't know how, but i downloaded a save game and the game run without problem, can anybody send me a savegame in default difficulty after the first mission? Because the savegame i download is too advanced
