id like to help.
« on: March 27, 2008, 01:55:48 am »
hey, this is probably the wrong section to post this in however.

i would like to help out with the development if possible.

i cant code to save my life, but i have a lot of visual skills and ideas, i have worked on a similar project before, using neverwinter nights, i can show you my work if you want to see some stuff.

but i think i could help in the following areas....

ufo paedia, map design, design of base areas, perhaps creating weapons and vehicles.

i dont have 3d studio max or anything tho, so im not sure what you would use for it, in neverwinter they had a custom program to make the areas (maps if you like)...i just sort of designed areas and pretied it up, i had others write the scripts, but i did all the map making and creature design, i can code a little, but only when i get desperate.

let me know if you need my help.

Hi,

We are using GTKRadiant as our map editor, the models are made with blender, wings3d or 3dsmax (or any other modeller that can export obj or 3ds files).

If you plan to make some maps have a look at http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Mapping - we could really need some help with the alienbase maptiles. You should make sure to grab the latest svn (see http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/Getting_the_source for more info) - there we already have some basic maptiles for the alienbase. Also please join the irc if you need help. Ask RichV, BTAxis or me about mapping problems.

i thought about doing an inca's style map (even tho im an aussi, just thought those maps from x-com enemy from the deep, looked kewl)...and maybe some aus/nz style maps (no opera house tho, such a cliche)

but yeah, i will have a look at alien base  stuff, i think i can think up something.

Though it may be a bit heavy for a freshman mapper, consider making your maps as random assemblies. Documentation about that can be found on the mapping wiki pages. Random assemblies are potentially much more versatile than fixed ones, and offer more variety for the player.
