sound license & sound resource page link
« on: January 01, 2008, 09:11:16 pm »
Hey there, I just had to take this game's article down Libregamewiki because it has strict rules about licensing (about like the Debian guys.) I hope the sounds which are according to the CONTRIBUTORS file cc-sampling plus licensed are the only thing non-free in the game now.

I recently found a sound resource, which features non-suckey licensed sounds. Here it is: http://pdsounds.org (pd for public domain =) )

Sorry, I forgot two things:
1. See this thread for art resources in general http://forum.freegamedev.net/index.php?t=msg&th=295
2. See this thread for an awesome cute nice sound-making tool http://forum.freegamedev.net/index.php?t=msg&goto=3968

Sorry for bothering =)

Just to report this awesome sounds source, maybe the author, wants to contribute.
Here's two examples, but he maybe has some more offline:

And here's the guy's Site:

I was reading news about the last release, and I remembered seeing this game in Libregamewiki listed as non-free. I went there then, and I saw it was because of the reasons here explained. Then (before getting to this old topic) I followed the link in libregamewiki and it takes to nowhere. The CONTRIBUTORS file is not in trunk anymore.

So, I wonder:
1) Is it because now the game solved that licensing problem and now all sounds as free as in freedom (and I mean http://freedomdefined.org/Licenses),
2) because the file is now somewhere else, or
3) because you just deleted it but those sounds are still there?

I would really appreciate an answer, since it's really important to me to know if UFO:AI can or can not be deleted from the non-free games list at libregamewiki.

I don't know this absolutely for sure, but I remember some work being done on replacing some sound SFX that had non-free licenses or unknown origins.  I don't recall off-hand if that work was finished yet or not.

I do know that there was also work done to replace textures used in maps that came from unknown places with GPL versions.  I think that part was finished.

As for the contribution file, I don't know the answer to that one off-hand.

see http://static.ufo.ludwigf.org/html/sound/696b031073e74bf2cb98e5ef201d4aa3.html to get a list of the remaining non-free (or better unknown license because the authors are not known) sounds
