2.2 : Can't start missions

Well, having read about the numerous improvements in 2.2 i decided to give it a try. I downloaded the .run installer and installed the game. I started a new campaign, built a base, assigned a team, noticed several new items... Then i was notified an ufo had landed so i sent my dropship, clicked "enter" to begin the mission ... and the screen turned black (with the cursor still visible), it could stay black for several minutes and nothing happens.
The game is not crashed cause if i hit "esc" i go to the menu, if i click continue i go back to the geoscape, but if i try to re-enter the mission the screen goes black again. I can't enter the missions ...

EDIT : I started from command line to have a look at the output. Here it is :

I have no game.so file anywhere in my home folder where i installed 2.2 ;  2.1 was installed through a package and there is indeed a game.so library in /usr/share/games/ufoai/base. i tried copying it to the 2.2 install but the game crashed when i entered mission

I noticed a "patch for linux game.so loading" on the same d/l page where i got 2.2, but when i click it it opens a small text page with code and if i right-click "save link target" i get a .diff file, and i just don't know what to do with it :oops:

gargy2002, how do you feel about downloading sources, compiling and trying 2.2? You are using 2.1.1 - while it is latest official release, I cannot be any help at that; just one additional question, you use some kind of ubuntu package or the official installer from sf page?
Or, search your fs for game.so, copy it to the desired directory (~/.ufoai/base/ or what it screams for) and try again

Hi, I completely unistalled version 2.1.1, because this version doesn't work properly(download from these pages, game.run, change run to executable and install in terminal). Wrong pixels on the screen(in the mission quite a lot). I played version 2.1.0 without problems and I've tried playing version 2.2(the same, download from here and install in terminal). Again problems with pixels and failed load game.so too. I think version 2.1.1 was sharing game.so library from default directory(version 2.1.0) /usr/share/games/ufoai/base, because I couldn't find this library in the home folder/ufoai/base. I don't know what is the problem. I tried copy game.so to the home folder/ufoai/base/ and same result as Bob-Morane. My PC: Intel DC2 1.66GHz, 2048 MB DDR2 RAM, nVidia Go 7300 256MB, Feisty Fawn.
I'm from Czech Republic so be patient with my terrible English.. :wink:

I think he is indeed referring to <homedir>/ufoai and not <homedir>/.ufoai. I have the 2.2 game installed in my home as it's a testing version and i didn't want to overwrite the working 2.1 i have system-wide. Thus i have a ufai and a .ufoai dir in my home. I guess game.so should be in the game directory, not in the hidden folder with config files.

OK, back on my trouble, i think it's exactly the same as gargy2002 as i have ubuntu feisty too. Anyway here is the full (rather long) output from the start of the game up to the error.

The same problems have got 3 people after downloading the game. Release is dated on 04.07.2007, could by some bug in the release, no problem in ours computers.... 8)  :)

this could be helpfull? i don't know how to use :D

As i said in my first post, i noticed this file but i don't know what to do with it.
I think .diff files are for people who compile from sources. I'm not sure cause i don't have much experience compiling software.

I had the same problem with ver 2.2 suse 10.3 and the solution was very simple
copy game.so to '/home/..your home dir..../.ufoai/2.2/base'
SOS : .ufoai is a hidden dir inside your home dir

start the game
1. using '/usr/bin/ufoai.sh'
or
2. type in terminal:
cd /usr/share/games/ufoai
/usr/games/ufoai/ufo +set s_libdir /usr/games/ufoai +set fs_basedir /usr/share/games/ufoai +set vid_ref sdl

thats all
