Are you serious?

How come the riot shotgun has 3 round burst and full auto and why does the micro shotgun have a 3 round burst? I liked it before when the riot shotgun had single and double shot. It was more realistic that way. I mean, how many shotguns do you know that are fully auto or have 3 round bursts. If you can show me some examples, I'll be appeased.

I don't know why, or whose idea it was. It has been said that the weapons need a lot of work.

So why not help?

Get an svn client. (TortoiseSVN is very easy - its for windows).
edit ufoai\trunk\base\ufos\weapons_human.ufo

the format of the *.ufo files is pretty obvious, but look here
http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/UFO-Scripts
and
http://ufoai.ninex.info/wiki/index.php/UFO-Scripts/weapon_%2A.ufo
(use tabs, not spaces).

be sure to put some comments in explaining the reasons.

make a diff (patch) using your svn client.

submit your patch at sf.net along with some more explanation. Then sit back and relax, happy in the knowledge that you helped to make the game a little bit better.
 :)

Fully automatic shotguns have been around in the real world for quite some time. Ordinary pump-action shotguns will be incredibly outdated by 2084 for anything except civilians. Your statement about 'more realistic that way' is completely wrong. In fact, the old implementation of the shotgun was a civilian double-barrel, which is utterly unrealistic with regards to (the capabilities of) shotguns currently in use by military and police.

Also, I fail to see what gives you the right to march in here with a tone like that and demanding to be 'appeased'. Regardless I'll post some examples here to forestall anyone else complaining.

The following may not be fully automatic, but they are classified as rapid-fire shotguns on semi-automatic:

And a link to explain the meaning of 'selective-fire' to anyone who might not be familiar with the term:

Well first of all, sorry for what you perceived to be my attitude. I thought appeased was better than satisfied. I guess I thought wrong. Anyway, the only shotguns I had found (yes I did some research) were prototypes and none of them had fully auto or 3 round burst.  I was under the false presumption that you did it with little research. I was obviously wrong. Once again I am very sorry. I love the game btw.

P.S. You can delete this thread now if you want.

It's alright. No harm done. Just give us a little credit, eh? :P

On the story team we research everything we write. We may be a little spotty on the more scientific stuff since we don't have anyone who comprehends the specifics of, say, high-level plasma physics, but firearms are one of our strong suits.

http://armedforcesjournal.com/blackwater/?s=2005_main1 - low recoil auttomatic 12ga shotgun - the initial photow shows a 30 round drum magazine.

It also comes with, IIRC, a 12 round box shown in this videa -  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDzsr2t41dA

Quite frankly the 2084 version is a little wimply.....;)
