Win 98 drive wipe on older PC error with UFO:AI
« on: April 03, 2007, 01:25:43 am »
I wiped my grandmother's hd recently due to major complications by my computer retarded aunt (she deleted sys32). So, when I load UFO:AI I get a "The UFO.exe is linked to missing shell32.dll file and the operation cannot be executed."

Then, I get "((my ufo directory)) is linked to a nonfunctioning device and cannot be executed."

Any ideas what is wrong with shell32?

i've never tried ufo on win98 plattforms - maybe you have to compile the game yourself

see the wiki compiling article for more information

Alright. I'm back on my home PC  now anyway, so I should be able to play it.

I think you're right though. It seems the shell wasn't compiling the game, however, I think the problem may lay in the fact that I had to wipe the OS and reinstall due to my aunt deleting the entire system 32 folder. Its possible shell32.dll simply is of an earlier version than need be. This was a clean 9e First edition install, not second edition, so the dll could be outdated.
