Bugs prior to release 2.3 / 7 on number pad brings up radar not 7th unit
« on: January 27, 2010, 02:45:00 am »
When using the numeric keypad to cycle through units when I hit 7 I get a radar pop up and it doesn't switch to the 7th unit.

I am not sure why it restarts mine.
  • Start Campaign
  • Click on Options
  • Click on Video
  • Click on Full Screen
  • Game goes to the first menu
Here is a temporary download link for an .avi in .7z that was too big too attach here if any developers wonder what the heck I am talking about.  http://sites.google.com/site/joedavis411/alien-invasion-stuff/fullscreenswitchonAI.7z?attredirects=0&d=1  The file is about 2.27 MB and it is about 10 seconds long showing me doing the above.

Discussion / Re: Another Reaction Fire Question
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:35:23 pm »
:o LOL, sometimes I am slow.  I fired up the game and got a tip of the day that if I hit x that I can scroll through the reservations like the old days, so I hit the x and guess what I find?  You may say that I found out that I was a moron, but you would be wrong, I already knew that, lol.  Directly under the button that I used to hit to reserve fire reaction is another button with a shield that does it now.   ::) Aint my face blue.

Discussion / Another Reaction Fire Question
« on: January 20, 2010, 08:44:34 pm »
I don't understand the reason for the new reaction fire reservation menu.  I designate the type of shot I want to perform in reaction time by a check in the shot selection already.  Which by the way, I love this  ;D.  Why do I need to select the shot type again in a different menu?  I was spoiled with the old way of selecting reaction fire reservation ::), click for one, click for several, click for off, easy.  Now I got pop ups and it takes me longer, and I got to think more...for what :'(?  Sorry for whining, but for real though, what's up with that?

So I was all set with my base, I had my units renamed, they were all wearing uniforms with colors for their duties, they all had their weapon configurations set up, I had research going, production happening, you know the drill, I go on first away mission and I says to myself, I says, I want Full Screen, so I change it.  Boom!!!  No notification, no take backs, changes to full screen but I lose everything.:'(  LOL, JK on the drama, but true story.  Think someone can throw us a freaking bone here people?  lol.  A little notification that changing to Full Screen will restart you would suffice.

I tried out the new version, and there has been some nice aesthetic alterations done to enhance both the GUI and battlescape.  This has come at a cost in having to tweak the default graphics settings for my game.  Well worth it, if I know what the heck I am doing, not usually wanting to spend forever to accomplish this, I would suggest some explanation of what all that stuff means, anisoptric what?  After getting the tears out of the landscape by turning off the shaders, which I found suggested in the forum about shaders, I still found bars in my landscape.  After lowering the slider for the light box size I finally got rid of the boxes and the landscape was Fabulous ;D, but now I find myself rocking out with a couple men from the Blue Man group wearing Swat uniforms and a Mercury type Terminator whose face hasn't fully formed into looking human.  Am I missing some settings or are there some texture issues being worked on still?  And is my craft supposed to blend into it's surroundings like a Chameleon?  Kind of a cool effect, but I liked the old craft better, but that's just me being subjective.

My OS - Windows XP Professional
Graphics Card - ATI Radeon X1650 512MB
Open GL - 2.1

Feature Requests / Re: Dropship healing area
« on: January 17, 2010, 04:29:10 am »
Not using the 2.3 because it sounds like it's still in beta, but I don't see why the drop ship couldn't do the same thing as another soldier does.  I back off my injured soldiers and have other soldiers heal him, or her while in mission.  It's quicker and easier than going all the way back to the drop ship, and the soldiers are kept healthy with minimal downtime.  A Drop ship auto medic would be decent in some battles, and if it healed to the same extent as other soldiers then what would be wrong with that?

Didn't XCOM UFO Defense have a medipack that checked injuries on the soldier and if it was in the leg it would show a red leg on the medipack, etc. and you could stop that injury from bleeding and then heal it.  And wasn't another function of the medipack to calm your soldier down after it started wigging out?  Didn't the soldiers become unconscious, prior to dieing in that game, if they bled out, instead of just being killed instantly?  And if you couldn't get to them in time they would let out that same death keel as they did when they died any other way?  Left ya with that OMG feeling, I was just about to get to him, NOOOOO!

Feature Requests / Re: Turn status like Silent Storm.
« on: January 17, 2010, 04:01:54 am »
If I remember correctly didn't XCOM use a still image for when you couldn't see something happening and then flashes of the things that you could see.  I believe they started with that image letting you know that the aliens turn was starting, and then it would flash in between the still image with alien sounds and people dying, then the things you could see it would show, like this game does, and then there was text saying it was the start of XCOM's turn either in the center of the screen on or the still image, but it was clear.  I felt that this added suspense and made me feel like I was a part of the mayhem, I couldn't see it but I could hear it and knew that it was out there.  Something like that was much better than green light/ red light.

Feature Requests / Re: The right to bear arms
« on: January 17, 2010, 03:47:53 am »
I would like to see every soldier maintain their equipment configurations regardless of whether they are assigned to a drop ship or not.  Furthermore, I would like to be able to save equipment configurations as templates so that I can assign one to a soldier.  If I have an assault template that has an Assault Rifle in Right Hand, A Smoke Grenade, Incendiary Grenade, Flashbang, and Frag Grenade on Belt, along with a medi pack in the holster, etc.  etc. then if I save with a descriptive name like Assault Template, I could assign it quickly to a soldier and then tweak as I see fit instead of dragging and dropping the same equipment to soldiers that I want to configure that way.  I would like to be able to create my own templates, and be able to make as many as will fit on my computer, ie no set limit.  I would like the equipment to be assigned to the soldier so I can't accidentally sell it or assign it to some other soldier, and I would like to be notified if there is a problem due to something missing, like not enough ammo (in the XCom game it would notify after a mission that it couldnt restock the equipment because not enough), though it would also be nice to have an auto buy feature to purchase what is requested in templates, or after usage in a mission.  I would also like to be able to not have to use a template, like now.
I feel this would answer the above posts along with adding greater features and functionality to the game.
