Discussion / Re: Always lose air battles

Just to note on the aircraft/hanger: Each craft should list what hanger size it needs, or the hanger can list it. I have read a few threads where players have been confused about that.

As for air battles, I usually go with launching my interceptor near base rocket range. Fire once, retreat. If the UFO is shot down, I move on. I rarely loose a ship

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Blender doestn actually make the game, but can be used to make the in-game stuff. Many of its features are there to make the models fit into the game as much as possible. I dont think that Blender would be the best idea for this project. Maybe for making weapons and other models, but not for the game itself

Discussion / Re: Grenade Launcher
« on: June 17, 2008, 07:34:48 pm »
people, the grenade launcher isnt a mortar. You shouldnt be bombarding the other end of the map with explosives. The Grenade launcher is supposed to be a mid-range weapon, targeting people behind cover, where rifles cant get, and you cant throw far enough.
But the "Out of range!" should be done away with for the launcher. Just a difference between having a good idea where its going to land (Or explode with air burst), and having no freaking idea. Green being high accuracy, red being low accuracy.

sorry for the double post, but Im having a problem getting the svn client and ssl to install. Its says that db43-shlibs-4.3.29-1001 could not not be installed, even though when I install that package directly, it installs just fine.

Feature Requests / Re: Local troops?

they would be armed with the most basic of human weapons. I dont think they would pick up any other weapon, since they dont know how to use it. But otherwise, yeah. Basic armor, smarter than the average civie, but I still say that how they react to PHALANX troops is based on national favor towards the organization

Discussion / Re: regarding gatling/minigun
« on: June 09, 2008, 08:46:47 pm »
someone mentioned that nanoammo and nanobullets would not be good. Wrong. A speck of dust, flying at the same speed as a bullet, can still be lethal, especially in the numbers we're talking about. And, considering the size, there wont be much air resistence because of the small surface area, so range would be long, though incredibly inaccurate. But u dont use miniguns and gatlings for accuracy or range.

As for carrying a thousand or so ammo, thats where strenght comes in. You wouldnt put an extremly heavy load on someone like me (6'4", 140 lbs, 3% body fat. Imagine), the weight would crush the guy before he could get off the plane.
And having the allies around carry extra ammo is a very good idea. The gatling could be adjusted to be comapitble with many rounds, much like the IAR, which fires the same rounds as the M-4, the standard infantry rifle for the US army. The IAR has a setting which allows it to fire full auto (Never have to take the finger off the trigger to keep firing), and when the gunner runs out, he can get another clip from his teammate

hm....i thought i edited one of my posts....
I used Fink to install the components (svn, svn-ssl, etc), though there was an error trying to install one of the db43 packages. I think I managed to get it installed, but Im not sure the client works, since when I type in the "svn co https://ufoai.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/ufoai/ufoai/trunk" command, I get an error saying svn: ssl is not supported

Which is what Im talking about! For someone in my position, wanting to test out patches that arent in the game, but has no experience with MACs, this is a completely confusing situation, and everything either has to be easy, or explained.

My idea was to have armed people (local forces) in the map (If there are people at all), and how the locals react to you is based on the nations relations yo PHALANX. You may be a target before the aliens  ;)

maybe it should determine how likely the individual is to survive, get wounded, or kill before getting killed. Skills, weapon and armor equipment, medic, ofcouse, day or night. All these would effect the likelyhood of victory, wounding/death, or complete defeat.
In my mind,, it would be kinda complex, but the outcome would be very reliable

it keeps talking about command lines, but never, not once, does it say where to type in the commands. Very frustating for a n00b like me. Do I use MACs console?

Ahh...kill joy! I can only guess as to the reasons (Not in the sarcastic way. Seriously, I can only guess) Then the rocket launcher is useless until there is something either big or small(in large nnumbers as fore mentioned)
The gatling gun, on the other hand. Pure awsomness. Unload near-molten lead, hundreds, or even thousands, of rounds per minute. It makes me giddy and giggle
